Hannah and David – the story
DavidandHannah.com is the website for David Michael and Hannah Lois. Our wedding date is October 17, 2009, at 2:25pm. Our wedding is at Bethel Church in Richland, WA. Thanks for visiting!
Here’s our story:
We met on December 18, 2008 at church. Shortly thereafter, we met over coffee. Then we met for coffee again. We met at the Starbucks in the Winco parking lot a bit before 7pm. It was then that we learned Starbucks closes at 7pm. Good ol’ Tri-Cities night life. Having ordered our drinks we padded next door to Jack in the Box. Several hours and much conversation later we said goodnight.
From that conversation, we learned that we have much in common. Here’s a brief list. We both:
- participated in the Luthern Elementary School Tournament (LEST) at Concordia College in 1992
- went on a Teen Missions trip (David in 1991; Hannah in 1995)
- attended Christian school (David through 8th grade; Hannah on and off through 12th)
- moved to a new town before a pivotal time in life (David after 6th grade; Hannah after 11th grade)
- served on international mission trips (David in Mexico, Guatemala, Philippines; Hannah in Iceland, New Zealand, Madagascar, Zambia, Kenya)
We started officially dating on February 25, 2009.
We took many walks together…around David’s neighborhood, around Hannah’s neighborhood, up and down the Columbia river on both the Richland and Pasco sides, and even up Badger Mountain a few times. We hiked around Palouse Falls. We traveled to Hillsboro to visit Kate, Hannah’s sister. We attended the “Celebrate Youth” concert performed by the Mid-Columbia Symphony. And we invented a new game for the Wii that we call “Whip IT.” We talked about our past-our triumphs and our turmoils. We talked about our future-our dreams and our hopes.
We were engaged on May 8, 2009.
(The following is written from Dave’s perspective) While on a trip to visit Hannah’s sister in Hillsboro, we took a day trip to the Oregon coast. We started out Friday morning. It was a bit chilly. We got hot chocolate when we stopped for gas. Next stop: Tillamook Cheese factory.
We toured the factory, got some free samples of cheese, and then had ice cream (mudslide) as a morning snack! As we were eating the ice cream, Hannah quipped, “Mudslide in the morning! This is shaping up to be a great day!” She had no idea.
From the cheese factory, we headed north toward Canon Beach. We arrived a bit before noon, parked the truck and headed for a walk on the beach. I had strategically placed the ring in my coat pocket for easy retrieval at the right time. Turns out, it was a bit too easy to retrieve. It was windy and chilly and as we walked toward the beach holding hands, Hannah moved to put our hands in my coat pocket. Knowing the ring was in that pocket I panicked. I didn’t want her to feel the ring in the pocket so as gracefully as possible, I maneuvered my hand. Problem is my maneuvering was nowhere near graceful. Hannah, noting my awkwardness, turned toward me, chuckled, and said, “Are you OK?” I made up some excuse and we kept walking.
As we neared Haystack Rock, I stopped, turned toward Hannah, looked her in the eyes and, for the first time, told her that I loved her. I told her that I cared for her, wanted to provide for her, and protect her. I then got down on one knee, pulled out the ring and said, “Hannah, will you marry me?”
She said yes!
Hannah took some excellent photos. I wrote “David loves Hannah” in the sand. We walked back to the truck. I pulled out some sparkling cider and we toast our engagement. We called our parents and then went to lunch at Fultano’s Pizza. From there we visited Ecola Bible School’s office to meet up with Hannah’s friends. As a nice surprise, one of my friends was also there as he is recently engaged to one of Hannah’s friends who works in the school office.
On our way back to Kate’s we grabbed dinner at Panera and began thinking about a wedding date. And now it’s almost here!
Interesting Trivia:
Hannah and David signed up for the same JanTerm class at church exactly 1 minute apart.
David thought Hannah was very cute and perhaps too young for him to date.
Our wedding starts at 2:25 because we started dating on 2/25.
David entered a essay contest and won an ice cream party for his neighborhood. The essay was about being engaged.
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Congratulations David and Hanners! Isn’t Gods timing perfect!
I am so happy for you both. Hannah I have always thought you were an amazing woman. Even though we have not seen each other for several years I have always enjoyed spending time with you. I have many fun and one not so fun but rather scary memories with you. The not so fun but rather scary one is when you and Tina caught Becci and I smoking up the street from Ecola. I will never forget that. You always make me laugh. Your personality can change anyone’s bad mood into a great one. I wish you both the very best. I hope to see you soon. Love you.

Great story! I loved Jessica’s comment about the title of a story – Muslide in the Morning. The time of the wedding – 2:25 p.m. – is a nice touch. Just be sure to start on time.
Welcome to the family, Hannah! We are honored by you and your wonderful family.
May God richly bless this marriage according to His heavenly riches.
Love to you both.

He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.
My heart smiled when I learned of your engagement. Two people running toward God and then colliding. I have to say that I laughed when I saw the engagement title and then the pic of Tillamook Cheese factory. I was thinking now that is an original place to pop the ?
oh, what a sweet story. so happy for you both. david, you know you’ve had a ton of friends praying that God would send just the perfect special girl for you. he did.
What a delight to share in your lifes story. I love the symbolism, simplicity, and sincerity of your journey. It seems to me to be describing the enactment of Psalms 37:3-4. May you enjoy eachother richly as you embrace His presence daily. Praising God from whom all blessings flow!
